Cycle bridge across the A421 and (just to the right) the M1.

Cycle bridge across the A421 and M1, and new shared-use route parallel to the new A421.

West end of shared-use path alongside the new A421 between Milton Keynes and Junction 13 of the M1. The gate across the road might one day allow the route to continue west to Eagle Farm, but that doesn't solve the dead end problem at the … [more]

Leighton Buzzard cycle route markings on the ground - seems like a great idea in the office but never really works as far as I am concerned.

Leighton Buzzard new bit of cycleway to the right but rest feels like it belongs (quite rightly) to pedestrians.

New A5 Dunstable Northern Bypass Bridge that is effectively a big u-turn on a path to nowhere.

End of path from A1 footbridge (see nearby photos for barriers) at Tempsford, opposite Station Road.

Cut-through in Potton - unknown to any of the online maps.

Cut-through in Potton - unknown to any of the online maps. Dropped kerb needed.

Church Causeway, Potton - paved and lit.

Church Causeway, Potton - one of those public footpaths that's paved and (in part) used by cars.

Old Bedford Road pretty quickly turns into a bridleway

Bit of a roller-coaster ride on the bridleway from Biggleswade Common to Sandy!

A pleasant route for NCN route 12 through northern Sandy

Right into the car park and then left.

NCN route 12 turns right here on the paved route

NCN 51 and NCN12 leading towards the centre of Sandy (cars go a much longer way around).

Farm road on the former Sandy-Bedford railway route leading to the A1 bridge (in the distance)

Unpaved surface leading to bridges on the Bedford to Sandy railway route

NCN route 51 climbs to regain the Bedford-Sandy railway route.

NCN51 turns 180 degrees here - so one sign suffices for both directions.

The actual route of the Sandy to Bedford railway was in the cutting immediately to the right/north - the cycleway is presumably on drier land.

The old Sandy to Bedford railway route taking a kink around a missing bridge.

NCN routes 12 and 51 heading down to the old Sandy-Bedford railway route

Very short section of shared-use route before the Cyclists Dismount sign at Great Barford bridge.

Cyclists are supposed to dismount and and wheel their bikes across Great Barford bridge - or use the road, of course, but beware that the one-way lights might change before you're across.

National Cycle Networks routes 12 and 51 (I think) through Sandy.

NCR 6 from Stanbridge to Dunstable - hard tarmac at this end, but over-grown bushes and loose stone chippings are more suitable to MTB riders the closer you get to Dunstable. Clearing up after the horses is more of a concern.

Contraflow cycle lane on Church Road, Linslade. Forms part of the route connecting the town centre in Leighton Buzzard to the railway station. The rest of the contraflow is unmarked on the road but is indicated by a traffic sign.

Good bridleway towards Guilden Morden

A bit narrow, with very poor visibility to the paths on the left. The cycle and pedestrian sections unaccountably swap sides at this point. Wouldn't it be better if the path were just unsegregated ?

Bridleways west of Potton

Mill Lane, Potton (approximate location)

Bridleway opposite The Lodge (RSPB headquarters) - the sign says that pedestrians are welcome but that car parking is now at the far end of the bridleway. No mention of cycling.

(approximate position) bridleway through The Lodge (RSPB headquarters)

Attractive bridleway south to Biggleswade Common

Bridleway onto Biggleswade Common

Southern entrance (pedestrians and cyclists) to The Lodge (RSPB headquarters)

Bridleway on the south side of The Lodge (RSPB headquarters)

Apparently new junction lay-out with short cut for cyclists - in use, but the signage cannot yet be revealed, it seems (also new speed ramps to the left).

New crossing for Sustrans NCN routes 12 and 51 in Sandy.

New crossing for Sustrans routes 12 and 51 in Sandy.

Cycle lane from Sandy town centre towards the A1.

Foot (and cycle) bridge across the railway north of Sandy station.

Bridleway north from Sandy station to Caesar's Camp.

Bridleway from behind the camera, leading to Sandy station and Stratford Road (cycle/pedestrian access to RSPB headquarters at The Lodge)

New cycle/pedestrian access to Sandy station - the crossing lights are working, but the signs are still covered.
