141878Photo #141878To allow for cycling out of the village (and walking ) for enjoyment of the local countryside without the need for a motor vehicle. This is also on a local cycle route and would therefore be of wider benefit to the Central Bedfordshire, indeed wider, community.
It is a real shame that there is such poor access to the local country side and amenities of the neighbouring village without the need of a motor vehicle.

141867Photo #141867The addition of a marked cycle way would assist in encouraging cycling to school and also facilitate cycling in the village.
If more cycling and footpath space results in reduced vehicular road space, it may assist in reducing the speeding issues in the area.

136408Photo #136408As the footpath ends on one side and continues on the other, pedestrians have to cross the very busy A5120 at this point which is between 2 bends with restricted visibility both ways, (the map doesn't clearly show the extent of the problem). This is dangerous and means that parents can't allow their children to walk alone and elderly people or those slightly slower cannot cross here.Track:

122229Photo #122229Derwent Road is a very wide road and although it has a 20mph very few drivers stick to this limit which makes it dangerous for cyclists.

A cycleway needs to be installed or shared space created to enable cyclists to feel safe

122222Photo #122222The pavement under the railway is unsafe and is very narrow making this a significant pinch point. To make this a safe route to school the Wing Road needs to be closed to enable children to be able to use the road to walk in instead of being crammed in behind the barriers. The pavement is also very unsafe with a badly sunken manhole covered which is a significant trip/fall hazard.Track:
Problem
track
122218Photo #122218The pavement runs out to nothing meaning that pedestrians need to cross the road at an unsafe place.

All along Derwent Road there is only pavement on one side of the road and this is often very very narrow pavement which is unusable for more than one person.

The road needs to be narrowed and the pavements widened all along and a cycle lane added so children can travel to school safely. Currently this is a very dangerous road in a residential area with many children who will need to travel to school whilst maintaining social distance. Urgent work is needed to address the issues.
