152451Photo #152451Newly built road with no cycle path. The road is uphill and cars travelling at motorway speeds, very dangerous. A separate cycle path is absolutely needed along this stretch (and as the road has only recently been built this is the ideal opportunity to do it).Cycleway:

152450Photo #152450The Leighton Rd is very wide & traffic moves at motorway speeds. There is easily space for a segregated cycle way along this road. At the moment travelling between towns along this road is incredibly dangerous. This road prevents me from cycling from Dunstable into Leighton Buzzard. I will only venture as far as Stanbridge. However, ideally there could be a cycleway from the Stanbridge section that travels parallel with the road to join into Astral Park, making it possible to safely reach Leighton Buzzard.Cycleway:

152191Photo #152191The route to Flitwick station from Westoning and surrounding villages is flat and an ideal distance for cycling. However Flitwick Road is very busy with many lorries from the M1 and is unsafe to cycle on. Any cyclist using the road creates a back up of traffic leading to frustration and risk taking. The existing pavement should be widened and separated into pedestrian and cycle use thereby making journeys safer for cycling, more efficient for motorists and reducing cars commuting to the stationCycleway:

152112Photo #152112It is often not wide enough (even when the vegetation is cut back. The camber of the pavement also makes it hard for wheelchairs and buggies to negotiate safely.

The crossing at Flitvale garden centre also needs to be safer, maybe with a pedestrian island/sanctuary.

In all honesty, a lot of commuters, school children and locals, in general, walk all the way from Westoning into Flitwick. The whole path would benefit from widening to make a cycling and pedestrian path. The road is quite horrible for cyclists to safely use; as drivers often overtake dangerously (we live on this road and witness it regularly, most worryingly, through the S-bend at Flitvale).

151994Photo #151994Pavement is very narrow and when cars past you their wing mirrors are Iinches from you! Also cars speed to the right angled bend. If two cars meet then they almost need to mount the pavement to get round. This is very dangerous with infant school children walking on the pavement at the bend. Making the road one way would help but also wider pavements and a speed camera could make it safer!Track:

151992Photo #151992The pavement here is extremely narrow and there are many cars parked on the road. It is incredibly hard for my son to bike safely on the road (because of where cars park and difficulty seeing cars often mount the pavement to pass other cars) or on the pavement (on trash days the cans are often left in the middle of the path and there isn't even enough room to walk past). Please look at improving this area by widening the path, or better yet, creating a cycle path from Church End of the village to the school.Cycleway:

151944Photo #151944All the way up this road the path is too narrow for kids on bikes to cycle safely. the road is too fast to cycle on. If you widened the path and narrowed the road you would make it safer for pedestrians and slow the traffic down through the village. 141867Photo #141867The addition of a marked cycle way would assist in encouraging cycling to school and also facilitate cycling in the village.
If more cycling and footpath space results in reduced vehicular road space, it may assist in reducing the speeding issues in the area.
