How to use the Photomap

Photomap is a library of photos indexed by location. The index is presented as a map overlayed with markers indicating the location of photos in the library. Selecting the markers enables viewers to see the photos and in some cases watch video or hear audio clips of media taken at that location. Tools are provided to edit the index and add media.

How to use Photomap

  1. Photomap displays a map overlayed with coloured markers.
  2. Clicking on the marker displays the photo that was taken at that point.
  3. If the photo has a caption or attached media this is also displayed.
  4. You can scroll the map around by dragging the mouse on the map.
  5. Other controls on the map change the zoom and type of background map displayed.
  6. With a user account you can add photos and edit the map database.

View Photos

Photosearch: by typing in an existing photo number (e.g 2202) the Photosearch button will take you straight to that page.

There are other links on the photo location pages (such as this one) that show you nearby photos - either as a list of photos that are increasingly farther from the current photo, or as a photo-map. You will also find links on that page to view the next or previous numbered photo, or later / earlier in time (this can be useful if you want to follow photos taken on the same day or journey).

The Index of Galleries provides a mega-index to all the public photos in the system.

We welcome your feedback, especially to report bugs or give us route feedback.
